Answer
Question: Can the upgrade from 7.9.x to 2014.x be accomplished without performing each incremental Millennium installation on my new Server?

This solution applies to sites with a production version of at least Millennium 7.9.x that plan to implement a new Windows Server which has never had any version of Millennium IIS installed on it.

Note:  Millennium 7.9.x & 2013.x triggers and stored procedures are not compatible with SQL Server 2012.   Deploy the appropriate Millennium databases on SQL Server 2008 R2 to ensure compatibility.

It is important to note that each newer version of Millennium must be installed in order to successfully upgrade the database version.

  1. Install Millennium 2014.x on the new server, configured as referenced in the Millennium 2014.0 System Configuration and the 2014.0 Installation documents found on KB article # 7341 Millennium 2014.0 Download instructions.
  2. DO NOT RUN CONVERSION TO 2014.0 DURING THE INSTALLATION
  3. Use the copy database wizard to copy the production data to the test server, make sure to also copy the metadata to the test server as well.
  4. Create the  Web SQL ODBC connection to the database.
  5. Browse to: \Inetpub\wwwroot\mill directory on the server where Millennium 2014.0 was installed. Create a new directory called tools2013.
  6. Download and extract installation files for Millennium 2013.0 (http://millennium.mip.com/Mill2013.zip ) into \Inetpub\wwwroot\mill\tools2013 created above in step
  7. Create a new log folder in  \Inetpub\wwwroot\mill\tools2013
  8. Explore the contents of \Inetpub\wwwroot\mill\tools2013 on the server where Millennium 2014.0 was installed, locate CONV2013.EXE and run it. A CONV2013.LOG is created in \Inetpub\wwwroot\mill\tools2013\log. Review the log for errors, correct them, and then re-run the CONV2013.EXE until it is error-free.
  9. Once the database has been successfully upgraded to v.2013, save the log files (CONV2013.LOG) in the: \Inetpub\wwwroot\mill\tools\log directory. Then delete the tools2013 directory.
  10. Log into Millennium 2014.0 as the ‘sa’ and populate the Registration and Serial number fields on the Tools > System Information page
  11. Run the PRINTERS.EXE to add report printers and populate the system information page.
  12. On the Millennium 2014.x Server, explore the contents of \Inetpub\wwwroot\mill\tools, locate CONV2014.EXE and run it. A CONV2014.LOG is created in \Inetpub\wwwroot\mill\tools\log. Review the log for errors, correct them, and then re-run the CONV2014.EXE until it is error-free.
  13. Run Millennium 2014 latest Service Pack (if applicable)
